Fantastic Fest Day 0 – Cabin Fever 2 Premiere

For the next 8 days I will (hopefully) be putting up daily updates from what’s going on at Fantastic Fest 2009! Yesterday, the 23rd was the Premiere of Cabin Fever 2 hosted by the Austin School of Film at the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz. I’m calling this Fantastic Fest Day 0 as it felt like a small prelude to the fest to come. The evening was spent at the theater, picking up my Fantastic Fest badge and swag and then heading over to the Cabin Fever 2 after-party at Maggie Mae’s downtown on 6th street. And to top it all off, spent some time hanging out with good Austin and visiting friends, sharing in our excitement for our mecca: Fantastic Fest.

You may see my photos popping up this week over at your favorite (or soon to be favorite) movie news blogs such as: Horror’s Not Dead, Cinematical, I Love Horror, Film School Rejects, and possibly more. I’ve given permission to some writers at these sites to use my photos at their leisure. I know that Peter Hall over at Horror’s Not Dead will be writing up Cabin Fever 2 for sure, so check over their for some info about the movie, I’m just the photo man :P .

I’m going to do my best to get these updates done daily. It will be difficult as I’ll also be having the time of my life at Fantastic Fest!

Ringo Deathstarr + ASoF + Dublab

Spent Sunday with Q Manning and a whole bunch of other camera operators and students at the Austin School of Film and Dub Lab music video shoot for the local Austin band, Ringo Deathstarr. Dub Lab (located in LA) is all about taking bands out of their normal environment and putting them somewhere foreign and capturing the performance on video. Today, Ringo Deathstarr played off 7th and Shady Ln in Austin in the middle of a weird rock cluster hole thing surrounded by foliage. I don’t know how to describe it better, honestly.

The great thing about today’s shoot was there were a whole gaggle of students there learning and contributing to the process. Austin School of Film and Dub Lab are hosting an event at the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz tonight (Monday) at 10:35pm. The event is described as:

“This matinee has transcended the afternoon and traveled into the night. Leave your body behind and join us for rarely seen music videos, new dublab VisionVersion films, comedy clips, out-there animation and other eye melting magic. This special evening will include a discussion with the curators Frosty & Morpho plus dublab djs playing far out soundtrack selections. Don’t miss these visions burning bright!!!”

Get your tickets here!

And keep your eyes peeled in the next couple weeks for the video to go live!
